Salvation, what does that mean?

**Disclaimer: My “words” are in italics and http://www.allaboutgod.com/salvation-prayer.htm are in normal black font. I used this website as a reference, but wanted to elaborate on the content for a more personal message.**

John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Salvation isn’t about how much you know, or how in depth you have studied the Bible. It’s not about how long you have attended church, or whether or not you have done enough good things. It’s really not much about you at all, actually.  It’s about putting down your own reigns and letting God pick them up and letting Him lead the way. It’s about saying you don’t have all the answers, and it’s trusting that God does. It’s the beginning point of your walk with God.

Where do I start?

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Salvation is the act of accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. This is the acknowledgment that you want a relationship with God, and it’s when you ask Jesus into your heart.

Salvation Prayer – The Simple Steps:
1. Acknowledge in your heart that Jesus is Lord.

2. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord.

3. Believe that Jesus died for your sins and was raised three days later. (This is what Easter is all about. I would suggest reading the book Luke in your Bible. It is what is called a gospel, which means “good news” in Hebrew. The book Luke is an account of the life of Christ from beginning to end. When you read it, the words that are being written by Luke are in black and the words that God/Jesus spoke himself are in Red (this is usually the case in the Bible).

4. Repent of your sins and get baptized in the name of Jesus. (Repent means you feel remorse for your sin. We all have sin, even after you are saved you will sin… it’s human nature. The difference from here on out is that you acknowledge that you are accountable for your sin with God and that only God can truly forgive you for your sin. Repentance is something that you will do in your own private walk with God, it is not something you are forced to discuss with anyone else although there is power in confessing sins to one another so we may lift one another up to the father.

Salvation Prayer – Merely a Tool to Communicate Our Faith
The Salvation Prayer is not a ritual based on specific words. This is not the power of a prayer, but the power of truly committing our lives to Christ as Savior and Lord. The following is merely a guideline for our sincere step of faith: (You can make up your own prayer and you can put your own words together. This is just a guideline. You could also use this one if you feel comfortable and are at a loss for words.)

“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross at Calvary, and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”
