The Veneer Christianity

If the Gospel has not changed your life to the core and transformed you from the inside out but rather polished up your outward appearance then maybe you have not truly accepted what Christ has done for you. Christianity is not about looking better or even feeling better for that matter. It is not for your happiness or prosperity. Christ did not die for your appearance to be squeaky clean or well to do. No. He died to atone for your sins. To save you from the eternal separation from God the Father. Do you understand this? If you do, then your life should be transformed in a way that is unmistakable.

Perfection is not what will come from a life that has been changed by the Gospel, but repentance, a humble heart, a willingness to follow Christ, and a softness that cannot be faked is. A gentle spirit, a kindness, and an ability to ebb and flow through life with grace and peace that cannot be obtained apart from Christ himself will be evident.

There are plenty of nice and kind people in the world who do not know Christ and live a fine life. So why does the Gospel matter? Destiny. Our eternal place within the heavens. It changes our trajectory and our entire perspective. The reality is that Christ is real. He walked the earth. He was fully God and fully man. He died to save us. To try and comprehend this in it’s totality is nearly impossible. In fact, I would argue that the actuality of the events of the Gospel are not able to be fully comprehended through logic and facts alone – though logic and facts do confirm that the events of the gospel did in fact happen. To apply mere logic and facts in order to try and take in the gospel would result in an understanding that is a far cry from the meaning of the whole thing.

In order to grasp what happened and the importance of it all, you must take your place  into consideration. Apart from Christ you are left without hope of salvation from your sins. It boils down to this: Christ was God’s son. Christ did die on the cross. Christ rose from the dead. Christ will return. Those are the facts. Now apply the depth of the reasoning for this happening: without this we would be eternally separated from God, our Heavenly Father. He sent his Son to show us how much he loved us. He sent Christ to bear witness to himself and his perfection. Christ took the place of our sin.

We all have an inner tug within our hearts to understand the meaning behind this life. Living for money, treasures on earth, relationships – fill in the blank – can only satisfy our yearning for more for so long. We can obtain all these things and yet there is still a void left, a hole remaining, an emptiness that maybe we can’t quite put our finger on but we recognize it’s existence. That hole can only be satisfied by a relationship with Christ, that tug is from God himself.

Don’t let your faith be merely a veneer. Let the Gospel permeate your entire being. Let it affect your entire life. Ask God into your heart, allow Him into your whole heart and embrace His will for your life. Fall into the Fathers arms, He loves you and cherishes you so deeply!
