Walking in Obedience

Guest Post by: Ashley W.

Obedience definition = submission to another’s authority.

In this day and age we hear the words “submit” and “obedient” and feel resistant. Rather than submitting to another’s authority we would rather be the ruler of our own lives. As difficult as it is to fully follow Christ and be obedient to Him we must realize that God asks us to do just that. Romans 10:5 says: “For Moses writes that the law’s way of making a person right with God requires obedience to all of it’s commands.” In order to be made right with God we must submit to His authority over our lives. Easier said than done, I know, but not impossible. Jesus lived a perfect life and is therefore a great role model for how we should live out our own lives.

Every day is sure to have it’s challenges and there will be seasons of our lives when we

feel as if God has left us completely but try to remain steadfast in your faith for he is good and his promises are true. On the difficult days do as it says in Philippians 4:8 and fix your thoughts on what is good and worthy of praise. The more we immerse our lives in Christ and read from his word, the more our lives will become a reflection of his.

God calls us to be different, he calls us to love and forgive. Those two things are not always easy to do but how can we withhold love and forgiveness from others when God so freely gave them to us? I don’t know about you, but I am far from perfect. This world continues to beat me down and attempts to steal my joy. Through the strength that Christ has given me I will try my best to walk in obedience. Some days I procrastinate and find others things to do before being obedient but we must hold each other accountable. We must break the cycle of obedience to society and choosing desires of the flesh and instead choose to be obedient to God each and every day. Only then can we truly experience the peace and joy that he desires for us amidst our trials. Only then can we experience his mercy and the deep love that he has for us.

For God sent his one and only son to die on the cross so that we could be freed from the chains of this world if only we choose to follow him with our whole hearts. The light will prevail over the darkness and it starts with each one of us choosing to follow Christ and submitting to his authority over our lives. Remember that we have the honor to serve our Lord freely and obediently unlike so many others around the world, we just have to be still and know that He is God.
